Johnson Family Night

Tonight was special. We had a family get together with my Johnson side of the family. My two uncles Don and Dave and thier families. Don's daughter Jessica and her three kids Evan, Brianne, and Austin. Dave and his wife Peggy and one of their kids Erin. They also have Andy and Pat but they weren't able to attend. And then of course my mom my dad my siblings and their families. Jeff with his wife Staci and daughter Amara, my brother  Adam, sister Teresa, and brother Jonas. And then me and my family, myself and my husband Brandon and I kids Jeremiah and Austyn. This is something we haven't been able to do in over six years. In fact the last time we got together I was newly pregnant with Austyn and my family hadn't even been told. My cousin Erin said she hadn't ever seen Austyn, who is already in the first grade!
We had hors d'oeuvres and soup and then we played what usually we called the two dollar game but this year we did white elephant and decided to continue to do that into the future. It was a lot of fun! I also made a point of taking a picture of the cousins together, first and third, in a picture on the couchas I had done six years ago of course now with the addition of Austyn. Everybody came around 5 PM and stayed till about 7 PM and it was just a nice time together. I look forward to doing it next year and the following years and I'm thankful to have family and continued traditions! A special thanks to my cousin Jessie for suggesting the get together in the first place!

Chores, Chores and more chores

It's never been a secret that from a young age we've taught our children how to do chores. But up until last week Jeremiah had never had the experience of washing the dishes. Thanks to his dad's- almost-to-the-bone-cut that required four stitches he is currently off dish duty. I myself have not been on dish duty in a long time and an effort to not get that chore back, we decided Jeremiah should learn how.
In the beginning as you can imagine, it was a mess! There were many chances to rewash glasses, forks, knives, spoons, bowls, cups and plates. But as it has progressed he's done better and I think is even taken a liking to doing a chore. Although I may be making that up. Here's to chores, chores, chores, chores!

Our People Came Over

The other night, Friday January 17th, we had over for dinner and games some of our favorite people. My mom said, "It's time you started having people over!" I felt the same. We love people, why not invite our people over. So we did. The Mayo's...Nicholas (Nick, Nickers, god-papa) and Kassandra (Kass, Kassie, Drama Queen, god-momma).  It was a real treat and a fun time. The dinner I had prepared wasn't exactly ready. We decided to scratch the chicken parm idea and have noodles and pasta sauce with salad, bread and coconut cake, red velvet cake and sugar cookies for desert. The day had gone a bit off-beat and not as planned. Brandon managed to slice his finger, quite deep, while doing dishes requiring 4 stitches. This resulted in not-yet-ready-to-eat chicken parm in the crock pot. No biggie. The meal was salvaged and yummy. The laughter and conversation superb. Our guests good sports while the kids jumped around them and talked in decibels only animals can hear. It was a sweet time and I am glad our people came over.
